Zero Downtime, Zero Disruption: Wireless Monitoring That Pays for Itself

Every building manager knows that real efficiency means saving more than just electricity. Time, labour and disruption all add up to big costs. One of the most common hidden expenses in energy projects is the work needed to install the meters. A food factory found that using wireless clip-on CT sensors instead of traditional wired meters saved over €15,000 in installation fees.

The Challenge

The factory wanted to monitor fifty production machines to track energy use and improve efficiency. The traditional approach would have required using in-line hard-wired three-phase meters. Each one needed an external electrician to isolate the circuit, wire the meter and test it. Every installation meant stopping a machine for an extended period and losing production time.

The Traditional Way

Installing a wired meter takes about one hour of electrician time and around forty-five minutes of downtime per machine. With electricians charging €80 an hour and the factory losing €300 an hour for each stopped machine, the cost increased fast.

For fifty machines, the total cost was about €4000 for labour and over €11,000 in downtime. The full amount came to roughly €15250 before even buying the meters or parts.

The Smart Way

Using wireless CT sensors, the same fifty machines were connected in a single working day with minimal downtime. The factory’s own technician handled the work. There was minimal downtime, no external electricians and no disruption to production.

The Result

The factory saved around €15,000 on installation alone. More importantly, all fifty machines were online within a day and began sending upto ten-minute energy readings straight away. The system gave the team a full picture of energy use without interrupting a single shift. The factory also has a wireless network which can be extended for air quality and dust monitoring, full power quality meters, and gas monitoring.

Why It Matters

For business owners and energy managers, the value of wireless monitoring is clear. It avoids long stoppages, keeps production moving and reduces installation costs by more than ninety-five per cent. It also makes it easy to see where energy is being wasted so that action can be taken quickly.
